UWI Gatorade Invitational Track Meet

The UWI Gatorade Invitational Track Meet which is a part of the Mona Homecoming Celebrations takes place on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 9 am at the National Stadium. The meet, which is in its 8th staging, will offer a wide range of events including 100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, High Jump, Triple Jump, Long Jump, Discus, Shot Put, 4x400m. The highlight of the Meet is a special Olympic development section beginning at 3 pm which showcases some of current and future top athletes at the professional level. Participants in the special Olympic Development Section include members of the Racers track, the MVP Track Club, the High Performance Training Centre, the UWI track team, the GC Foster College Track team and the UTech Track team. 

Volunteers Needed to Assist Students with Special Needs

The Office of Special Student Services is inviting UWI staff and students volunteer to assist UWI, Mona students with special needs. Volunteer services include guides, typing, research services and library assistance.

Interested persons may contact the Office by telephone at 935-8549 or visit 15 Ring Road, facing the Main Library.

Bob Marley Lecture

The Institute of Caribbean Studies at UWI, Mona hosts the 13th annual Bob Marley Lecture entitled “Rastafari-Reggae Bob Marley:  Africa Scattered For Rhythm Of Spirit of Oneness For The World” as part of the International Reggae Conference. The Lecture takes place on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 7 pm at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona.  This year’s lecture will be delivered by Tekla Mekfet, Rastafari Elder, educator, author and journalist.

Pregnancy in Advanced Maternal Age

"Pregnancy in the Woman of Advanced Maternal Age" is the theme of the 9th annual Perinatal Audit and Symposium being organized by the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Child Health, UWI, Mona.  The Symposium takes place on February 12-13, 2010 at the Main Medical Lecture Theatre located at the University Hospital of the West Indies.

UWI, Mona Launches Roundtable on Risk Management

The Mona School of Business (MSB), in collaboration with the UWI Mathematics Department and the Caribbean Actuarial Association launched a forum dubbed, ‘MSB Roundtable 2010’ recently. The Roundtable is designed to encourage dialogue to assist organizations in the public and private sectors in managing risk for growth and development especially in light of  current global economic uncertainties.  The MSB Roundtable 2010 is scheduled to take place March 4-5, 2010 at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre.

UWI and UTech Stage UNI-T DoAthlon on February 14

The University of the West Indies, Mona and University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) partner to host the UNI-T DoAthlon and 5K Fun Run/ Walk on Sunday, February 14, 2010 under the theme, “Bringing Back the Love”. The DoAthlon and Fun Run/ Walk begins at UTech at 6:30 am and ends at the Mona Bowl, UWI with a Recognition Ceremony of top participants.

The event serves a dual purpose of promoting healthy lifestyles and community involvement and hence the university community, members of the public  and persons from neighboring communities are specially invited to participate. There is also a fund raising element to the initiative as proceeds from the event are donated to the Sir John Golding Centre’s Rebuilding Fund.

UWI Graduate Receives Prime Minister Youth Award

Olivia Rose, a graduate of the Masters of Science in Applied Psychology and Psychology tutor at UWI, Mona was named the Prime Minister's Youth Awardee for Excellence in the category of Academic Excellence at a ceremony held recently.

International Reggae Conference

The University of the West Indies, Mona hosts the International Reggae Conference under the theme, “International Reggae: Current and Future Trends in Popular Music”. The Conference takes place February 17-20, 2010.

Bob Marley Lecture
