UWI, Mona Hosts Presentation on Long-term Use of Testosterone: Realities and Myths

 
The Department of Surgery, Radiology, Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at UWI, Mona will host a presentation entitled, Long-term use of testosterone: Realities and Myths.  The presentation will discuss diagnosis and treatment of low testosterone in men. It will also address commonly asked questions and alleviate fears of the treatment. Professor Farid Saad, Specialist in endocrinology of aging, male aging, male hormonal fertility control will share on this occasion. The event takes place on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 8 am at the Main Medical Lecture Theatre located at the University Hospital of the West Indies, Mona. 
 

First International Forensic Medicine Conference Hosted by UWI, Mona

The Department of Pathology, UWI, Mona in collaboration with University of Toronto Centre for Forensic Science and Medicine have organized the first International Forensic Medicine Conference on May 26-27. The two-day Conference which begins at 8 am daily at the Main Medical Lecture Room on the University Hospital of the West Indies Campus (UHWI) will feature local and international experts. 
 

African Liberation Day Symposium to Take Place at UWI, Mona

The Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work at UWI, Mona will host an African Liberation Day Symposium on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 6 pm at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), UWI, Mona. The Symposium is entitled, “Assessing the Present State of Pan-Africanism in Jamaica and Exploring Pan-African Unity Across Spiritual Lines.” Featured panelists include: President of the United Theological College of the West Indies, Dr. Marjorie Lewis, Minister Clive Muhammad, Koranic Scholar and Ras Miguel Lorne, Attorney-at-Law.

UWI, Mona Hosts Benefit Concert to Assist Students

The University of the West Indies, Mona presents its second annual benefit performance of the University Singers in Concert.  The proceeds from the Concert will go towards the Needy Students Fund.  
 
The performance takes place on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts (PSCCA) at UWI, Mona at 8.00 p.m. 
 
Tickets are $1,200 pre-sold and $1,500 at the gate, and may be obtained from Ms. Donnetta Wright, Marketing & Communications Office at 977-5941, the Office of the Campus Registrar at 977-1202 or the University Bookshop cashier. 
 

Government Monthly Seminar – Caribbean and Arab Thoughts Examined

Dr. Elizabeth Kassab, Visiting Professor, Cogut Centre for the Humanities, Brown University will deliver speak at the monthly Departmental/ Graduate Research Seminar organized by the Department of Government, UWI, Mona. Her presentation is entitled, “A Post- Colonial Tragedy of Enlightenment? Some Caribbean and Arab Thoughts”. The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 2:30 pm at GLT 1, UWI, Mona.
 

“Sins of the Father” Plays at UWI, Mona

The Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts (PSCCA) at UWI, Mona presents “Sins of the Father” on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 7:30 pm. “Sins of the Father”, critically acclaimed and Tallawah awarded short play written and directed by Joel Miller is now a full length drama about the historical fiction horror/drama about the Roman Catholic Church's relationship with exorcism.

UWI, Mona Joins In Celebrating World Telecommunication and Information Society Day

“Achieving Equality in ICTS for Women and Girls: Issues, Opportunities and Challenges” is the theme of the panel discussion to mark World Telecommunication and Information Society Day celebrated on May 17. The panel discussion which features Hon. Julian Robinson, Minister of State, Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining takes place at 6 pm at the Executive Seminar Room, Faculty of Law, UWI, Mona.  Other panelists on the occasion are: Kay Osborne, Management and Communication Consultant, Jennifer Williams, Director, Policy and Research, Bureau of Women’s Affair and Dr. Dhanaraj Thakur, Lecturer, Department of Government, UWI, Mona.  The event is organized by the Telecommunications Policy and Management (TPM) Programme at UWI, Mona.
 

Public Seminar on Jenny Volcano

The Department of Physics will host a public seminar entitled, “Numerical simulation of a volcanic submarine landslide-generated tsunami at Kick'em Jenny Volcano: source and propagation". The seminar is set for Thursday, May 17 at 1:30 pm at Physics Seminar Room. Dr.  Frédéric Dondin, Post-Doc in Seismic Research Center (SRC) will deliver the presentation.

CARIMAC’s Aggrey Brown Distinguished Lecture Examines Media and Sport Partnership for National Development

The Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC), UWI, Mona will host its second annual Aggrey Brown Distinguished Lecture on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 6 p.m., under the theme, “Media and Sport: Partners in National Development”. The Lecture will be delivered by the Hon. Mike Fennell, President of the Jamaica Olympic Association at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona Campus.
 
CARIMAC will also host a series of related radio and television panel discussions from May 13-22, 2012 to stimulate discussion on issues relating to media and communication disciplines including current research in sport, the training and managing of athletes, the business of sports and women in sport.
 

Climate Energy Series Explores Solar Energy Systems

The Department of Physics, UWI, Mona presents the sixth lecture in the Climate Energy Nexus: Call to Action Lecture Series on Tuesday, May 22 at 5:30 pm at Physics Lecture Rm B, UWI Mona. The lecture is entitled: ‘Options for Solar Energy Systems’.  Professor Emeritus Anthony Chen will deliver the lecture. 
 
The lecture is part of a 12 part monthly lecture series which will examine the intersection points between energy and climate.
