Department of Government Hosts Graduate Research Seminar

The Department of Government, UWI, Mona hosts a Research Seminar where PhD candidates in the Department will share findings from their research.  The seminar takes place on Tuesday, April 17 at 2 pm at SR 15.  
 
The seminar features the following:

UWI, Mona Hosts Free CAPE History Workshops

The Department of History and Archaeology at UWI, Mona will host free Caribbean Advance Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) History Workshops for sixth form students on April 14 and 21 at 9:30 am at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), UWI, Mona. The Workshops are organized by the Department as a part of its outreach efforts. 
 

“Rastafari in the New Millennium” Book to be Launched at UWI, Mona

“Rastafari in the New Millennium” is the title of the Rastafari text being launched by the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 6 pm at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona.  Speakers on this occasion include, Professor Rupert Lewis, Garvey Scholar at UWI, Mona , Dr. Clinton Hutton, Pan- African Scholar and Lecturer, UWI, Mona and Mutabaruka, Rastafari commentator and radio personality. 
 

Student Awards Ceremony 2012

The annual Student Awards Ceremony will recognize hundreds of students for their outstanding performance in academics, co-curricular activities and sports. The Ceremony takes place on Saturday, April 14 at 6:30 pm at the Assembly Hall, UWI, Mona.  Dr. Carl Bruce, Associate Lecturer in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, UWI, Mona and Consultant Neurosurgeon at the University Hospital of the West Indies.
 
UWI, Mona students are invited to share on this occasion with their fellow students in their accomplishments. The event is organized by the Office of Student Services and Development at UWI, Mona.

Panel Discussion -'Trends, Challenges and Future Prospects for the Jamaican Real Estate Market'

The Department of Geography and Geology, UWI, Mona in collaboration with the Jamaica Geographical Society will host a panel discussion entitled, “Trends, Challenges and Future Prospects for the Jamaican Real Estate Market. The panel discussion is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 19 at 4:30 pm at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona. 
 
Panellists on this occasion include: Robert Kinlocke, Assistant Lecturer, UWI, Mona, Everton Dewar, Attorney-at- Law, Tanya Pringle, Corporate Communications Manager, Jamaica National Building Society. 
 

Seminar on Colombian Drug Trafficking Subculture

 The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at UWI, Mona will host a Departmental seminar entitled, “Colombia’s Drug Trafficking Subculture: Its Literary Representation in La Virgen de los Sicarios and Rosario Tijeras.” The presentation will be made by Dr. Maite Villoria, Lecturer in the Department. The event takes place on Thursday, April 5 at 5 pm at Room N5, UWI, Mona.
 
All are invited to attend. 
 

UWI, Mona Hosts Students Conference

The Leadership and Student Engagement (LSE) Unit at the UWI, Mona hosts an inaugural Student Conference on Thursday, April 5, 2012 starting at 9:15 am at the Irvine Hall Dining, UWI, Mona.  Speakers featured at the Conference include: L’Antoinette Stines, Artistic Director and founder of L'Acadco Seretse Small, musician and CEO, Griot Music and Tanya Stephens, recording artiste. The Conference will also feature other student entertainers and presenters. 
 

Lucille Mathurin Mair Lecture 2012

“Rebel Women: Engendering Transformation ", is the theme for the 2012 Lucille Mathurin Mair Public Lecture to be delivered by Mrs. Beverley Anderson-Duncan. This year's distinguished guest speaker is a gender and transformational leadership trainer and activist and author. The 2012 Lecture is being organized jointly by the Mona Campus Unit of the IDGS, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (Jamaica and the Eastern Caribbean), and Jamaica Money Market Brokers. The event takes place on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 5:30 pm at Lecture Room 2, Faculty of Law, UWI, Mona. 
 

UWI, Mona Final Year Students Host Forum for Males

Six final year students, at the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC) UWI, Mona  will host a forum dubbed, UWIman:Mona ‘Mek Wi Reason’ Sex Talk debate and discussion.  The event is set for Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 1-3 pm at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona. 
 

Brazil’s Ambassador Designate to Present at Seminar on Brazil/ Jamaica Relations

Ambassador Designate to Brazil, Mrs. Alison Stone-Roofe will deliver the main address at the Department of Government Seminar on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 2: 30 pm in Seminar Room 4 (SR4), UWI, Mona. Her presentation is entitled, "Opening New Windows to the World - Jamaica/Brazil Relations as a Partnership for Progress". 
 
Mrs. Stone-Roofe is also the Director of the Caribbean & Americas (C&A) Department and part-time lecturer at UWI, Mona. She is a career diplomat who has over 20 years working experience in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, and serves as a Member of the CARICOM Inter-Governmental Task Force (IGTF) on the review of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas.
