Minister of Industry and Commerce to Speak at the Launch of the UWI BSc in Management Studies (Entrepreneurship)
“The Role of Tertiary Institutions in the Development of Innovation and Enterprise” is the title of the address being given by Hon. Karl Samuda, Minister of Industry and Commerce at the official Launch of the Bachelor of Science in Management Studies (Entrepreneurship) degree at The University of the West Indies, Mona. The Launch Ceremony takes place on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 6:30 pm at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre, The University of the West Indies, Mona.
Inaugural Professorial Lecture-Professor Mohammed Bakir
Dr. Mohammed Bakir, Professor of Chemistry will deliver his inaugural professorial lecture titled “How to Conquer Smart Molecular Systems” on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 6 pm in the New Chemistry Lecture Theatre (C 5). The lecture will explore the methodologies employed for the development of research programmes in molecular sensors and catalysis at the UWI, Mona Campus.
The university community and other interested persons are invited.
‘Improving your Memory and Concentration’
‘Improving your Memory and Concentration’ is the focus of this week’s Study Skills Workshop which takes place on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 2 pm at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1). The Study Skills Workshop is organized by the University Health Centre to assist students in achieving academic excellence. Other sessions will address topics including: Stress Management, Time Management and Test Taking Skills.
All UWI students, especially new students, are invited to participate in these sessions.
Library Training Session
The Mona Information Literacy Unit (MILU) at The University of the West Indies, Mona will be holding its second round of training sessions at the Main Library training room for ALL students. These sessions will address Searching Databases on September 22-26 starting at 9 am, 12 noon and 6 pm each day.
Students are asked to register for ONE session by signing at the whiteboard in the Catalogue Hall, Main Library.
Elsa Leo-Rhynie Symposium and the 15th Anniversary of the Centre for Gender and Development
The Centre for Gender and Development Studies hosts the Elsa Leo-Rhynie Symposium and celebrates the 15th anniversary of the Unit November 9-11, 2008. The Symposium and Anniversary Celebrations is themed Gender Perspectives in Education: Caribbean Impact, Global Reach.

Internship Programme
The Institutional Advancement Division (IAD) in the Office of the Vice Chancellor, UWI hosts a presentation on the Six-Week Internship programme which took place under the Alumni Apprentice Programme last summer. Two students will share about their internship experiences in the United Kingdom and Canada on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 2 pm at the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre, UWI, Mona.
“The Business of Sport”
“The Business of Sport” is the title of the panel discussion being hosted by the Mona School of Business and the Department of Management Studies at the University of the West Indies, Mona. This is in keeping with The University of the West Indies’ mandate of continuous education and several initiatives in sports. The panel discussion highlights trends and opportunities in the sports industry. The event takes place on Friday, September 26, 2008 at 6 pm at the Graduate Lecture Theatre (GLT 3), The Alister McIntyre Building.
