Master in Computer-Based Management Information Systems Exhibition
The 2008 Master in Computer-Based Management Information Systems (CBMIS) cohort in the Department of Management Studies, UWI, Mona will host an exhibition on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 9:30 am at the Assembly Hall. The exhibition will showcase the work of present and a selected group of previous CBMIS Projects. As part of the Masters programme, students are required to develop an innovative piece of software as their final project which would be displayed at the exhibition.

Orientation for New Students
The University of the West Indies through the Office of Student Services and Development has organized Orientation activities geared towards new students running from August 17 -22. The Orientation exercise is designed to familiarize new students with the University campus, student development programmes and activities and to assist students in adjusting to university experience.
Culture, Psychology and ‘Social Justice’
The Department of Government presents a public lecture on the topic Culture, Psychology and ‘Social Justice’ which speaks to the importance of cultural and psychological perspectives in resolving workplace and societal disputes. The Lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at 12 noon at Seminar Room 4 (SR 4), Faculty of Social Sciences, UWI, Mona.
UWI Memorial Shield Football Tournament
On July 21, 2008 The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus through the Sports Office kicked off the inaugural staging of the UWI Summer Football Mania, appropriately themed "Unearthing Talent". With almost 40 campers in attendance daily, the two-week camp proved to be highly competitive and provided an opportunity for the campers to refine their football skills and learn new ones.
Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health Symposium
“Cutting Edge Developments in Global Occupational and Environmental, Safety and Health” is the theme of the Symposium being hosted by the Department of Chemistry on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 1:30 pm in the Chemistry Lecture Theatre (Chem 5).
TMRI Public Forum
A public forum for the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Tropical Medicine Research Institute, UWI, Mona is scheduled for Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 9 am at the Main Medical Lecture Theatre.
The public forum will feature a series of lectures from the four units that constitute the Tropical Medicine Research Institute namely: The Tropical Metabolism Research Unit, Epidemiology Research Unit, Sickle Cell Unit in Jamaica and the Chronic Disease Research Centre in Barbados.
Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences Pre-Orientation
The Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences (FPAS) Pre-Orientation Exercise Series for new students continues on July 28, 30 and 31 at the Interfaculty Lecture Theatre starting at 10 am daily. The exercise is designed to familiarize new students entering the Faculty in the 2008/9 academic year with the Faculty and provide guidance regarding career selection, student matters and an introduction to the registration process. There will also be a brief tour of the Faculty.
Professor Emerita Maureen Warner-Lewis Named Winner of Internationally Acclaimed Gordon K. and Sybil Lewis 2008 Award
Professor Emerita Maureen Warner-Lewis is the winner of the internationally acclaimed Gordon K. and Sybil Lewis 2008 award for her recently published book, Archibald Monteath: Igbo, Jamaican, Moravian, recently published by the University of the West Indies Press. The award was announced at the 33rd Annual Conference of the Caribbean Studies Association meeting, San Andres, Colombia. The selection was made from thirty-nine nominees from sixteen different international publishers.
