On Thursday, February 23, 2025, the Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) hosted an impactful ACCA Talent Trends event from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, aimed at inspiring and guiding future accountants. The event attracted an enthusiastic audience, with more than 30 students attending in person and an additional 10 participating online, reflecting the growing interest in career opportunities within the accounting profession.
Key Presentations and Insights
The event commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. Twila Mae Logan, Director Accreditation and Quality Unit, MSBM, followed by opening remarks from Paula Marchelle Irish, the Head of ACCA Caribbean. In her presentation, she highlighted global talent trends, emphasizing the importance of adaptability and continuous learning in today’s dynamic financial environment.
Nehanda Nkrumah, an ACCA member and Internal Auditor at UWI, delivered an engaging presentation on emerging opportunities within the accounting profession, followed by Dr. David Knight, Director of Human Resources Management & Development at the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), who provided valuable insights into recruitment trends and the skills in demand within Jamaica.
Panel Discussion with Industry Experts and Future Leaders
A vibrant panel discussion followed, led by members of the UWI Mona Aspiring Accountants Club, who actively engaged the guest speakers with thought-provoking questions. The student panelists included Tyrique Campbell (President), Nia Chambers (Treasurer), and Nickoy Graham (Assistant Secretary), who facilitated a lively and insightful dialogue with Nehanda Nkrumah and Dr. David Knight. The discussion centered on the evolving role of accountants, career readiness, and the significance of professional qualifications like ACCA in gaining a competitive edge.

Dr. David McBean, Executive Director, MSBM, extended greetings, emphasizing the School’s commitment to supporting students in achieving global standards of excellence. The event concluded with an inspiring address by Mr Leighton McKnight, Executive in Residence MSBM and an ACCA Fellow. Mr. McKnight shared his remarkable journey from university student to becoming a Partner at PwC Jamaica, motivating students to persevere and excel in their professional pursuits.
