 Mona School of Business Management (MSBM) University of the West Indies, Mona, will lead an exploration of the legal and regulatory framework of the Jamaican Securities Industry, at a seminar at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.  With VM Wealth as the lead sponsor, the seminar is being held in association with the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ) and the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC).


Under the theme “Understanding the Framework of the Securities Industry in Jamaica” the seminar is being presented against a backdrop of increased interest in the sector and a need for a greater understanding of the rewards and risks of owning securities, the regulations that govern them and compensation schemes.    Leading the speakers at the event will be the Governor of the Bank of Jamaica and the recently appointed Chair of the Financial Services Commission, Richard Byles.  

Other presenters include Ms Shirley-Ann Eaton- Attorney-at-Law, Legal Counsel, MSBM; Dr Twila Mae Logan- Associate Clinical Professor of Finance, Chaplin School of   Hospitality and Tourism Management- Florida International University; Ms Antoinette McKain- Chief Executive Officer, Jamaica Deposit Insurance Corporation and Steven Gooden, President, Jamaica Securities Dealers Association.

In providing a context for the seminar, Dr David Mc Bean, Executive Director of the MSBM said that the seminar is in alignment with the school’s advocacy role and its commitment to “being relevant and responsive to matters that affect the business and management landscape.  MSBM has a rich history of not only providing the highest calibre of management education through our degree courses but also providing a space for public discourse on matters of importance to the business sector.   In hosting this seminar, we hope to provide information on business models and investor risks in the securities sector, provide information on types of compensation schemes and provide information on the public knowledge/perceptions of the securities sector or what constitutes the securities sector.”
