Professor Joseph Plummer, new Dean for the Faculty of Medical Sciences
Professor Joseph Plummer has been appointed Dean of the Faculty of Medical Science, University of the West Indies, Mona. He replaces Professor Minerva Thame, who is retiring.
 
Professor Plummer, who will take up his appointment on August 1, 2025, joined the academic staff of The UWI Mona Campus in 2005 and was promoted to senior lecturer in 2011. He was appointed Professor of General and Colorectal Surgery in 2017.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to advise of the appointments and reappointments of members of its senior management approved at its annual business meeting of University Council, held in May, as well as the University Finance and General Purposes Committee (F&GPC), held on Friday, July 11, 2025. 

The University Council is authorised by The UWI’s Charter and Statutes to review the work of the University together with the audited statement of accounts and make required appointments of new and returning Executives, Deans and Senior Managers.

The UWI Medical Students Score Big in Final Exams

There was high success rate among 2025 graduating medical student at the University of the West Indies (The UWI), Mona.

One hundred and thirty-four medical students sat the examinations at Mona, of which 125 (93.3 per cent) were successful and only nine or 6.7 per cent unsuccessful and will be required to do a resit of the examinations. 

The majority, 96 (71.6 per cent) of the medical students who sat the examinations at Mona are from Jamaica, the remainder were from the Caribbean region with a few international students.
