Professor Marvin Reid has been awarded the Fellowship Designation by the  World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA), at the  WONCA World Congress and Conference  in Sydney, Australia (October 21 to 29,2023). This is a significant and proud moment for The University of the West Indies, (The UWI) Mona Campus. This prestigious recognition underscores Professor Reid's exceptional contributions to WONCA and to the field of family medicine and further solidifies his standing as a distinguished figure in the global medical community.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Mona is working with and through its new UWI Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Unit (ED&I) to increase equitable access to quality education for its students, while also ensuring its work environment is agile and enabling for all.

Professor Paul Brown from the Department of Basic Medical Sciences in conjunction with co-Investigators Dr. Patricia Diaz, Professor of Empire Innovation and Director of the University at Buffalo Microbiome Center, NY, USA, and Dr. Alan Landay, Professor of Internal Medicine at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, USA, received a USD$1 million award from the National Institute of Health’s (NIH’s) National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research and Fogarty International Center to create a training programme at The University of the West Indies in Jamaica.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) has promoted five of its finest academics to the rank of Professor. The new professors are experts in the fields of Special Education, Organic Chemistry, Spatial Information Science, International Law and Global Environment Governance, and Environmental Information Modelling and Management.

A sweet venture unfolded at The University of the West Indies' (The UWI) Cave Hill Campus on October 20 as The UWI’s world-renowned Cocoa Research Centre (CRC) introduced its signature chocolates to the Barbados market. This 'soft launch', which coincided with the graduation ceremonies, marked the CRC's first foray into the Barbadian market. The launch, led by Pro Vice-Chancellor and St.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI), one of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU’s) 14 global Academic Training Centres (ATCs), has opened registration for its first course offering under the ITU’s ATC programme. This course, Design and Development of Smart Cities, provides an overview of the essential aspects of smart city development.

On Monday, November 20, The University of the West Indies (The UWI) brought together a panel of experts for the Vice-Chancellor’s Forum, under the theme “Masculinity, Fatherhood and Children’s Rights”. The panel investigated the shifts in masculinities and their implications for children's rights to live free from violence along with other rights enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The UWI Mona hopes that all members of our Campus Community are safe and have been minimally impacted by the inclement weather conditions that affected Jamaica on November 17.
