The UWI, Mona on Wednesday June 7th 2023 signalled its commitment to press full steam ahead with plans to become a climate-smart university and leader in E-mobility research. 
This renewed burst of energy comes after Professor Dale Webber, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Principal of the Mona Campus, and Mr. Zachary Harding, Director, Flash Motors Company Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the deployment of The University’s first Electric Vehicle (EV) Smart Charging Station donated by that company.
 

The UWI celebrates alum’s rise to Presidency of the UN General Assembly

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) celebrates with great pride the appointment of one of its distinguished alumni to the presidency of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).  Announced on June 01 as the President of the 78th Session of the UNGA, His Excellency Ambassador Dennis Francis is the first native of Trinidad and Tobago and the second UWI alum to hold the position. He joins His Excellency Dr Samuel Rudolph Insanally of Guyana, who graduated from the University College of the West Indies (now The UWI) and served as the 48th UNGA President.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) has announced Professor Densil A. Williams as Principal of the Mona Campus effective August 1, 2023. He succeeds Pro Vice-Chancellor and Campus Principal, Professor Dale Webber who resumes teaching and research duties as a Marine Biologist after July 31, 2023.

The following statement is issued by Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies in response to the tragic fire in Guyana on Sunday, May 20, 2023.
 
 
"The entire regional University of the West Indies grieves with the government and people of Guyana on the recent loss of 19 young lives in a fire at the Mahdia Secondary School, located in the Potaro-Siparuni region, west of the Essequibo River.

On Monday of this week, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, His Excellency, António Guterres made time in his very busy, two-day, world wind visit to Kingston to do a brief tour of The University of The West Indies Mona Campus. His Excellency met with senior members of The UWI teaching and management team at The Prime Ministers’ Park - a park that honours UWI graduates who have become leaders of government across the region (Pictured). Vice Chancellor Sir Hilary Beckles gave the Secretary General a vivid but succinct history of the monument at the heart of the park.
