UWI Mona Launches New Course on EV Technologies

The Faculty of Science and Technology at The University of the West Indies, (UWI) Mona, will be introducing a new course aimed at equipping students with a broad foundation in the burgeoning field of electric mobility. Commencing in Semester 2 of the Academic Year 2023-2024, the Faculty will be offering “Electric Mobility - Fundamentals of EV Technologies.” Considered a pioneering initiative, this new offering seeks to expose UWI graduates to the future of sustainable transportation.

In one of the most comprehensive scholarly works of its kind within the region, Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Professor Sir Hilary Beckles has been honoured for his distinguished contributions to academia and as a social justice advocate and administrator.

Dozens of academics including fellow historians from across the globe have contributed 41 articles to the near 1150-page festschrift, a commemorative volume of writings by various authors and presented to the scholar as a tribute.

The University of the West Indies (UWI) mourns the passing of Emeritus Professor of English, Edward Alston Cecil Baugh, a quintessential scholar and gentleman who exemplified the ideals of The University of the West Indies, both as a student and later as an academic who spent thirty-five immensely productive and intellectually impactful years here as a teacher, writer, administrator, and scholar. His death on December 9, 2023 represents an immense loss to Caribbean literary studies.

Professor Michael Taylor among 47 new Fellows elected to TWAS (The World Academy of Sciences)

The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) elected 47 new Fellows to their academy this year and among them is Jamaica’s Professor Michael Taylor, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology at The University of the West Indies. Prof. Taylor was elected for his work in the field of Earth, Climate and Environmental Sciences. This year’s class includes Fellows from 25 countries and include a Nobel laureate.

The election of the new Fellows will be effective starting on January 1, 2024, bringing the total TWAS membership to over 1,400.

The UWI Mona hosts The Festival of Carols

The University Chapel’s Annual Carol Service will take place on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at 7:00 pm at the University Chapel, The UWI, Mona. Themed The Festival of Nine Lessons with Carols, The Mona campus will be hosting a face-to-face Carol Service for the community and general public. The organizers are inviting anyone who is unable to make it in person to join the festival on YouTube as the service will also be streamed live on The UWI Mona Media YouTube Channel.
