The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to advise of the appointments and reappointments of members of its senior management approved at its annual business meeting of University Council, held in May, as well as the University Finance and General Purposes Committee (F&GPC), held on Friday, July 11, 2025. 

The University Council is authorised by The UWI’s Charter and Statutes to review the work of the University together with the audited statement of accounts and make required appointments of new and returning Executives, Deans and Senior Managers.

Professor Donna Hope, Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS), in the Faculty of Humanities & Education at the University of The West Indies(The UWI), Mona Campus, was recently installed as president of the Caribbean Studies Association (CSA), at its annual conference held in Simpson Bay, St Martin.

The Faculty of Science and Technology at The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Mona, will be launching a cybersecurity major in September.

The Caribbean Centre for Research in Bioscience (CCRiB) is hosting a unique series of immersive science camps under the theme ‘Foundations of Research: Building Scientists of Tomorrow’.

Targeting advanced high school students and undergraduate, the seven to 10-day camps provide hands-on exposure to real-world scientific research, theoretical backgrounds and experimental design. Each camp focuses on a cutting-edge theme in modern science:

Professor William D Aiken will on Saturday (June 28) be installed as District Governor for Rotary International District 7020 at a ceremony at The UWI Regional Headquarters on Mona Road, St Andrew.
Professor Aiken is head of the Department of Surgery, Radiology, Anaesthesia & Intensive Care, and Emergency Medicine, at the Mona Campus of The University of the West Indies.

The Caribbean Crystallography School (CCS) held its inaugural edition June 2 – 7, 2025.

There was high success rate among 2025 graduating medical student at the University of the West Indies (The UWI), Mona.

One hundred and thirty-four medical students sat the examinations at Mona, of which 125 (93.3 per cent) were successful and only nine or 6.7 per cent unsuccessful and will be required to do a resit of the examinations. 

The majority, 96 (71.6 per cent) of the medical students who sat the examinations at Mona are from Jamaica, the remainder were from the Caribbean region with a few international students.

Dr. Christopher Malcolm already has special plans for the Norman Manley Law School, where he will assume the role of principal on September 1.

Dr. Malcolm intends to comprehensively assess the law school's programme and how it functions upon taking office.

"My immediate priority is to find out what the current status of the law school is at all levels, including student and staff activities, how the law school has been performing by reference to what end users require, and about operational or other issues that might require corrective adjustments," he said.

The Jamaican Giant Galliwasp will now remain on display at the UWI Museum until June 25, 2025.
