The UWI Launches 75th Anniversary Celebrations

The UWI Regional Headquarters, Jamaica W.I. Friday January 6, 2023—“The 75th anniversary of The University of the West Indies is about to be a magnificent year.” These sentiments came from Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles as well as University Registrar and Chief Administrative Officer, Dr. Maurice D. Smith during a media briefing held on Friday January 6, to launch the University’s 75th anniversary being commemorated throughout 2023.

This year marks 75 years since the official opening of its first UWI Campus in Mona, Jamaica.

IMPORTANT ADVISORY - Scheduled Shutdown of ICT Services at The UWI Mona

The University of the West Indies Mona wishes to advise that it will be carrying out a scheduled upgrade of critical electrical infrastructure that will result in a shutdown of the Campus' ICT Services from Wednesday, December 28th at 1:00 am to Saturday, December 31st at 10 pm.

During this maintenance window all ICT Services, including the following platforms will be unavailable:

The UWI Mona hosts The Festival of Nine Lessons with Carols

The highly anticipated annual festival of Carols – The University Chapel Annual Carol Service will take place on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at 7:00 pm at the University Chapel, UWI, Mona.

All proceeds from the Service will go towards the University Chapel restoration fund.

Themed the Festival of Nine Lessons with Carols, the UWI will be hosting its first face-to-face Carol Service since 2020. The organizers are inviting the world to join the festival on YouTube as the service will also be streamed live on the UWI Mona Media

The University of the West Indies, (The UWI) Mona, through the Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS) will host the launch of the UWI Mona Prison Project (UMPP) on December 6th, 2022, at 2:00 pm in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre at the UWI Mona Campus.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Mona and Norfolk State University (NSU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding committing to areas of cooperation while on an official visit to Jamaica. The agreement was the culmination of a series of face to face and virtual engagements between the two institutions over several months. The official visit to the Campus occurred over the course of two days when the team visited the Western Jamaica Campus and The Discovery Bay Marine Lab on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 and the Mona Campus on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.
