Qualifications & Experience: 

Dr. Lois George is a leading Caribbean scholar in mathematics education whose work advances research-informed, culturally responsive approaches to improving mathematics teaching and learning across the region. Her scholarship bridges theory, classroom practice, teacher development, and policy reform, with a sustained commitment to equity and system-wide improvement in mathematics achievement.

Dr. George is Senior Lecturer in Mathematics Education at The University of the West Indies, Mona, where she teaches and coordinates undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in mathematics education. Her work integrates research, policy, and practice in advancing mathematics education reform across the Caribbean.

With over twenty years of experience across the education system, including service as a school principal, classroom teacher, teacher educator, and regional consultant, she brings grounded leadership insight to her scholarship. This combination of institutional leadership and academic expertise enables her to design and support sustainable, system-level approaches to strengthening mathematics teaching and raising achievement.

Her research programme spans mathematical cognition, teacher knowledge, large-scale assessment, STEM education, and equity in mathematics learning. She has led and contributed to regional initiatives aimed at addressing persistent underachievement in mathematics and building teacher capacity at scale.

Dr. George is a multiple recipient of the UWI Mona Principal’s Research Awards for outstanding research and research impact, as well as awards for excellence in teaching.
