I graduated from the University of the West Indies in 2016, with a major in Special Chemistry. During my tenure as an undergraduate student, I received multiple awards for my outstanding academic achievements. These include the Bert Fraser-Reid award, for excellence in the advanced undergraduate organic chemistry courses CHEM 2210 and CHEM 3210, as well as the Linnaeus-Palme grant for study abroad at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
I enrolled in the MPhil graduate programme in the Department of Chemistry in 2017, as a member of the Downer- Riley research group. During this period, I received the UWI Postgraduate Scholarship in 2018. I have also presented a poster at the 27th and 28th staging of the Mona Symposium on Natural Products and Medicinal Chemistry.
My research group focuses on the syntheses of heteroaromatic compounds. Presently, I am working on the methodological development and application of the Willgerodt-Kindler reaction, for the synthesis of novel thioanilides and heterocyclic compounds. These products may find use in medicinal chemistry as drug leads. They may also be used as potential ligands in solar and photovoltaic cells.
