Professor Kenneth Stuart entered the department in 1963. He carried out important research on alkaloids, natural products which often possess remarkable biological activity, some of which are used extensively as pharmaceuticals. He was co-supervisor to ten postgraduate students. His time as Head of Department was shorter than usual, as he migrated to Canada mid-term.
