Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Training

In order to allow students to find employment more readily after graduation, the Department of Computing has begun to offer Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) training. The following fact sheet provides more information about CCNA training.

Specific Programme: CCNA Exploration

CCNA Exploration is primarily designed for Academy students with advanced problem solving techniques and analytical skills, typically associated with degree programs in Engineering, Science or Maths.

NB: The alternative to CCNA Exploration is CCNA Discovery. CCNA Discovery is designed for students with basic PC skills and foundational maths and problem solving skills.

The CCNA Exploration program is composed of four modules:

  • Network fundamentals
  • Routing protocols and concepts
  • LAN switching and wireless
  • Accessing the WAN

Program Structure

Each module has a duration of about 70 hours. At UWI - Mona students will cover the contents of each module by meeting for three (3) hours per evening on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 12 weeks.

At the end of each module students will sit a module exam. After passing each module exam students will get a certificate acknowledging that they have completed.

After completing all four modules students will register with Cisco to take the CCNA certification exam.

Registration Policy

  1. Registration is complete when the Non-Refundable One-Time Registration fee is paid and 50% course fee is made prior to the start of the course.
  2. CASH OR PERSONAL CHEQUES ARE NOT ACCEPTED at the Department of Computing Main office.
  3. The Department of Computing reserves the right to re-schedule or cancel a module due to under-quota or low-enrollment. You will be advised as soon as possible and given the opportunity to re-schedule or informed on the refund procedure.

Cost per module: JMD 20,000

Method of payment

  • Get a statement from the department or go to Athena to fill out an online registration form.
  • Pay at Bursary Cashier in the Annex Building
  • Present your receipt before start of classes

Withdrawal and Refund

  1. The Department of Computing reserves the right to cancel any module and will refund 100% of course-fees paid.
  2. Participants who cancel their attendance within 5 business to 10 business after the start of the course will be refunded 90% of the course fee.
  3. All cancellations must be in writing.
  4. In all refund cases above, payment will be refunded once a written request is submitted to the Department of Computing.
