Aleem Mahabir is a PhD candidate at the Department of Geography and Geology, the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica. His research interests lie at the intersection of Urban Social Geography and Psychology. His dissertation focuses on the link among psychosocial dispositions, social exclusion, and under-development among residents of marginalized inner-city areas in Port of Spain, Trinidad. He has also been involved in a number of projects organized under regional and international supranational entities and NGOs including the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREE), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Bank, the Nature Conservancy, the Hungry Cities Partnership, and the Clinton Foundation. Apart from his research pursuits, he is actively involved in social initiatives and outreach programs in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Kingston, Jamaica.
