Overview

Lance Scott Investigates the intersection between climate finance, rural development and livelihoods exploring the perspectives on Weather Index Insurance using a mixedmethods approach. Lance believes his research is valuable given the highly vulnerable nature of rural farming livelihoods with limited ex ante tools to address the impacts of climate extremes and disasters.  Lance has presented at several international conferences and has also represented Jamaica at the International Dialogue on “Creating a Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance Evidence Roadmap” organized by Munich Climate Insurance Initiative based in Germany, where he contributed to a Working Paper that advised key government officials and other stakeholders such as policymakers, international development agencies, and agribusiness owners.
Lance served as the President of the Mona Association of Postgraduate Students (MAPS) for the 2020/21 academic year where he steered the student association through the COVID-19 pandemic, increased postgraduate welfare and established formal communication structures. He has also supported the management and implementation of several regionally impactful projects including Climate Risk Adaptation and Insurance in the Caribbean (CRAIC) and A Jamaican Path from Hills to Ocean (H20) among others.
