Bone Mineral Density Measurements of Women in a Black African Population in Lagos, Nigeria Using Accudexa Bone Mineral Density Assessment System: A Preliminary Study

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.374
Synopsis:
This study was conducted to justify the need for a bone mineral density(BMD) database for African women in Nigeria whilst testing the appropriateness of using the African-American database as a reference. The preliminary results suggested that they might be inappropriate.

ABSTRACT

Objective: No normative database for bone mineral density (BMD) exists in Nigeria. This study aims to provide the basis for the creation of a normative reference BMD database for women in Nigeria while assessing the appropriateness of applying normative data for African American women to Nigerian females.
