This was a retrospective study with quantitative and qualitative components evaluating risk factors for prostate cancer and health-seeking behaviour of men in western Jamaica. Two hundred and four men were interviewed and twenty men took part in two focus groups.

Prostate Cancer Knowledge, Attitudes and Screening Practices among Men in Western Jamaica

This study has identified several sociodemographic and health-seeking behavioural factors associated with prostate cancer screening among men in Jamaica. This information can be used to design interventions to increase prostate cancer screening and decrease prostate cancer morbidity and mortality.

Background: African-Caribbean men, particularly Jamaican men, have one of the highest incidences of prostate cancer in the world. This cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate knowledge, attitudes, practices and factors associated with prostate cancer screening among men in western Jamaica.

Correlates of Symptoms of Depression and Anxiety among Clinic Patients in Western Jamaica

To ascertain the prevalence of symptoms of depression and anxiety and their correlates, surveys containing sociodemographics and items from both the Beck Anxiety Inventory and the Beck Depression Inventory-II were administered to outpatient clinic attendees in Western Jamaica.

Objectives: There is a paucity of studies on psychosocial disorders in clinic populations in Jamaica. Therefore, we sought to determine the prevalence and correlates of symptoms of depression and anxiety in a clinic population in western Jamaica.

Evaluating a Theory-based Health Education Intervention to Improve Awareness of Prostate Cancer among Men in Western Jamaica

Use of a theory-based health educational intervention positively influenced knowledge of prostate cancer risk factors, symptoms, and types of screenings. This theory-based patient education programme can be replicated to promote awareness of prostate cancer and inform screening methods including potential risk associated with screening behaviours.
