Synopsis:
Fluoroquinolones are antibiotics of choice for treatment of infections in humans and are also increasingly used sub-therapeutically in veterinary practices. Seventeen plasmid-carrying fluoroquinolone-resistant representative isolates of commensal E coli recovered in a previous study from faeces of apparently healthy cattle in Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria, were investigated for the presence of qnrA and qnrB genes on plasmids using polymerase chain reaction.

ABSTRACT

Objective: This is to investigate the implication of fluoroquinolone usage in veterinary practice and the food chain system.
