The American Chemical Society (ACS) Jamaica student chapter at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology, The UWI Mona has earned a Commendable Chapter Award, a prestigious recognition of their dedication and hard work. This award was presented at the ACS Awards Banquet on March 17, 2024, during the ACS Spring Conference in New Orleans, USA. The award was collected by Areka Rattery, the Outreach Coordinator and Assistant Secretary of The UWI Student Chapter who is also an MSc Food and Agro-processing Technology student in the Department of Chemistry and Scientific Officer at the International Centre for Environmental and Nuclear Sciences (ICENS).
The ACS Student Chapter awards acknowledge the outstanding efforts of student chapters in setting goals, budgeting, chapter development, service, outreach, and professional development. Each year, student chapters are recognized for their achievements during the previous year.
For the 2022-2023 academic year, 56 chapters received an Outstanding Award, 90 chapters received a Commendable Award, and 78 chapters received an Honorable Mention.
This award is a reflection of the commitment and excellence of the ACS Jamaica student chapter, and we congratulate them on their well-deserved recognition!
