Excellence Rooted in Purpose: The Journey of Chenille Mundell, the Valedictorian Proxime Accessit of the Class of 2025

 

Chenille Mundell is a First Class Honours graduate of the BSc in Actuarial Science, whose academic excellence, leadership, and service distinguish her as one of the top graduates within the Faculty of Science and Technology.

Her academic achievements include placement on the Dean’s Honour Roll, receipt of Academic Commendation, the Merville Campbell Prize (Level 2), and earning the Highest GPA in the Faculty of Science and Technology (2025).

In recognition of her outstanding performance and future promise, Chenille was awarded the CAA Actuarial Science Scholarship and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) Fullerton-Long Scholarship.

Beyond the classroom, Chenille served as a Calculus Tutor within the Department of Mathematics and volunteered with both the Jamaican Mathematical Olympiad and Mathematics Fairs in rural Jamaica, designed to foster a love for maths, etc.

As Vice President of the UWI Actuarial Society, Chenille led club meetings, coordinated outreach activities, and co-planned Spirit Week and other events. She also spearheaded the  2024 reinstatement of the UWI Actuarial Society’s Annual Awards Dinner, which had paused due to COVID-19. The Dinner marked the close of the club year, celebrated member achievements, and facilitated networking with professionals across the actuarial and financial sectors.

Looking ahead, Chenille aspires to become a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and to be a visible example of excellence for women in the professional space.

At the core of Chenille’s achievements is a profound sense of gratitude. She openly acknowledges that everything she is and all that she has accomplished is because of God, her family, and her friends. Their unwavering support, encouragement, and belief have been central to her journey. She remains grounded in the understanding that none of her successes were achieved alone.
