FST and GWU explore opportunties for Climate Resilience in Caribbean Tourism

On Friday, May 26, 2023, Ms. Seleni Matus, Executive Director and Professor at the International Institute of Tourism Studies from The George Washington University (GWU), visited the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at The University of the West Indies Mona Campus (The UWI Mona). Ms. Matus met with Prof. Michael Taylor, the Dean of FST, and Mrs. Elecia Myers, the Coordinator of the Resource Mobilization Unit at FST.

The discussions primarily focused on previous partnerships between The George Washington University and The UWI on various projects, such as the State of The Jamaican Climate Report and the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation (MEGJC) Vulnerability Risk Assessment and Climate Change Adaptation Plans project. They discussed their shared interest in supporting climate resilience in the tourism sector in the Caribbean region through training and other initiatives. The aim was to expand the outcomes of UWI-related and other initiatives.
