FST Grads Students at COP27

FST Graduate students Leneka Rhoden (Department of Life Sciences), Lance Scott, Ayesha Constable and Jhannel Tomlinson (Department of Geography and Geology) and Tracy-Ann Hyman (Institute for Sustainable Development) represented The UWI/ Jamaica at the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) from November 8-18, 2022 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

 Leneka served as a panellist and lead session facilitator at the International Universities Climate Alliance and also participated in a panel discussion at the Commonwealth Blue Charter’s Side Event on Climate Finance and Green Energy. She spoke on the decarbonisation of the Caribbean’s energy sector and how it will contribute to climate change mitigation across the commonwealth. Lance participated in a group activity surrounding Climate Activism and Climate Justice. He was invited to an official High-Level meeting with the Executive Director of the UN’s Climate mobility where they discussed mapping of the Caribbean region and Climate Modelling of climate impact projections.
