FST Student, Deron Maitland Receives Scholarship from CCRIF

"CCRIF has granted a scholarship to Mr. Deron Maitland, a postgraduate student at the Climate Studies Group Mona (CSGM) to participate in a six-month supervised stint at the University of Bristol as part of his MPhil programme within the Department of Physics at UWI. The value of the scholarship is US$11,000. Mr. Maitland also is a former CCRIF Intern and participated in the CCRIF Internship Programme in 2017 where he worked with the CSGM and assisted with the development of a climate change vulnerability document for the United States Virgin Islands.

The CSGM has forged a link with the School of Geographical Science at the University of Bristol to take advantage of the expertise in sea level rise science at that University. Mr. Maitland is a graduate student member of the CSGM and has completed the first year of the MPhil programme. His research focus is on understanding the dynamics and variability of sea level rise in the Caribbean region. The stint in Bristol will allow him to take advantage of a range of sea level rise courses.

CCRIF has ongoing collaboration with the Climate Studies Group Mona. This entity has hosted interns each year under the CCRIF Regional Internship Programme and also recently participated in the Technical Stakeholder Workshop on the new CCRIF models held in Barbados."
