FST Students Return From Study Tour of Japan

Through a student exchange program two FST students journeyed to Sophia University, Japan in January 2019, where they met up with other youth from the Caribbean and the Pacific Islands for a month long study tour. During their stay, Vijay Gregory and Sharmoy Findley (FST Undergrads) studied the language, learned about the Japanese education system as well learnt about Japanese media and other contemporary issues. They also participated in numerous cultural activities including exploring the country from Shibuya to Kamakura where they visited the temples, and to Hino, where they learned about Samurais. They saw the famous pandas at Ueno zoo, went to the top of Tokyo Skytree, attempted ice-skating, and tasted Japan’s vast cuisine - from sweets made from green tea and sweet beans to sushi, onigiris and meat buns. Through this program the students were given a firsthand experience of life in Japan as a university student.  Vijay and Sharmoy attest to the wonderful experience they had and would readily recommend the exchange programme to others. The student exchange was facilitated by Japan's Association for Promotion of International Cooperation (APIC) in collaboration with The UWI.
