In January 2020, the Department of Geography & Geology partnered with The Westmoreland Municipal Corporation (WMC) to deliver GIS training over four days  to community residents age 17- 35 years old. The objectives of the training included: 1) providing residents from Russia, New Market Oval and Llandilo Phase 1 with the opportunity to acquire skills in the use and application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS); providing the participants who have successfully completed the training programme with certificates endorsed by the UWI Mona and; providing UWI Mona with an opportunity to collaborate with the WMC on the design, organization, and implementation and post-training monitoring of a community-based training programme that targets youth in above mentioned three communities in Savanna-la-Mar.
