Highlights - FST Management Retreat 2026

The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), The University of the West Indies, Mona, hosted its annual Management Retreat today (June 11) bringing together faculty leadership to reflect on achievements during the 2025–2026 academic year and to chart strategic priorities for 2026–2027.

A highlight of the retreat was a special presentation by distinguished FST alumnus, Dr. the Honourable Andrew Wheatley, JP, MP, Minister Without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Science, Technology and Special Projects. Dr. Wheatley provided valuable insights into Jamaica's Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Strategy and its implications for national development, research, innovation, and workforce readiness.

The discussions reinforced FST's mission to advancing excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and public engagement while strengthening its contribution to Jamaica's sustainable development agenda. Faculty leaders also examined opportunities to deepen partnerships, expand research impact, and enhance the student experience.

The retreat concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and a shared commitment to positioning FST as the premier hub for science, technology, innovation, and STEM leadership in the Caribbean, continuing its mission of making FST the "go-to place for science."
