Michael Calloo - FST Valedictorian 2019

Michael Calloo was born in St. Catherine where he grew up with an extended family. Throughout his upbringing , his mother was his primary influence; she encouraged him to aspire to succeed in everything he does. He became a highly focused high school student because of her constant encouragement.

In second form, Michael developed an interest in computers and would spend his spare time learning to build websites. This profound interest in technology later led to his interest in Data Science. During his senior year at Glenmuir High, he fell in love with the possibility that mathematics and technology could have an immeasurable impact on almost every aspect of life. He saw where his career could allow him to leave a legacy, using his passion to change lives.

Michael selected and completed a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Computer Science and Statistics in the Faculty of Science and Technology. He pursued his education on a full tuition scholarship from the Ministry of Education received in his second year. Michael was very active on Taylor Hall, functionaing as a peer tutor.

Michael's acumen and his aspiration for learning and helping others, along with encouragement from his lecturers, led him to receive an internship offer from Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong following his participation in a recruitment fair held in the Faculty in 2018. He worked with the Mobile Engineering Team for the summer of 2019 and at the culmination, was offered a job to commence in January 2020.


Michael graduates with First Class Honours in Computer Science and Statistics. He is one of four Valedictorians for this year's graduation ceremonies. Well done!
