Ms. Micketa Watson is an Office Attendant in the Department of Chemistry where she has diligently served for over fourteen years. She often goes above and beyond her duties in the care and attention she has provided to students in the Department of Chemistry. During this period of the Covid-19 pandemic, when face-to-face laboratory classes were being offered in the Department, many students were unsure as to what to do, where to go, this being their first trip to the campus. Students were understandably emotionally stretched having to come in for face-to-face classes at such a difficult time. Some students arrived early before offices were opened to deal with their questions. Without being asked to do so, Ms. Watson took the initiative to actively look out for the students, directed them and sought assistance for them if she was unable to help. She often comes in early to discharge her assigned duties and is ever willing to pitch in where ever the need arises. Ever vigilant, Ms. Watson can be depended on to ensure that the Department’s rooms are secured and to collect and store the property of the Department after hours until it could be returned to the designated office. Ms. Watson is a no nonsense person who works fairly well with other members of staff.
Ms. Watson is a valuable member of staff and the Department of Chemistry has benefitted from her contributions. She was recently awarded “For Excellence in the Provision of Support Services (UAWU)” at the Faculty’s Awards Ceremony held on March 31, 2022.
