The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Mona has taken a significant step forward in advancing cybersecurity education and research through a new partnership with Precision Cybertechnologies and Digital Solutions Limited. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was recently signed between the two entities to establish the Precision Cybertechnologies Cybersecurity Research and Teaching Laboratory and Internship Programme within the Department of Computing, Faculty of Science and Technology.
Valued at USD 50,000, the initiative will strengthen the department’s capacity to train students and conduct cutting-edge research in cybersecurity. The project will be co-led by Dr. Curtis Busby-Earle, Senior Lecturer, whose research interests span Cybersecurity, Requirements Engineering, and Quantum Computing.
This collaboration aims to foster innovation, bridge the gap between academia and industry, and provide students with hands-on experience through structured internship opportunities. The new laboratory will serve as a hub for both teaching and applied research in cybersecurity, enabling students to engage with real-world challenges while supporting the development of secure digital solutions.
The Faculty of Science and Technology welcomes this timely initiative, which not only enhances the Department's technical infrastructure but also aligns with UWI’s strategic vision to support national and regional digital transformation.
