Three high school students who recently bonded at the 2025 Marine Mania Mariners Camp were excited to participate in the 2025 International Coastal Cleanup Day activity organized by the Port Royal Marine Lab. They were warmly welcomed by Jeanelle Irvine, Outreach Officer.
The three students cemented their camp friendship by meeting up to participate as a team for International Coastal Cleanup Day in a team led by one of their parents.
The students Bethany Edwards - Wright, Nyala Newby (ICHS) and Aalyssa Mohammed (Campion) enjoyed their Marine Camp experience where they learned about coastal and marine biology so much that they were excited to link up on Saturday, September 20, 2025 to participate in International Coastal Clean-up Day (ICCD).
The team was also joined by Deborah Davidson (camp counsellor), Thera Edwards (parent) and Monique Nelson (biology teacher at St Andrew High School). The time spent collecting solid waste at the Gypsum Site along the Palisadoes was well spent as not only did they demonstrate their commitment to environmental stewardship but Bethany and Nyala also earned valuable community service hours as part of their requirements for graduation at Immaculate Conception High School.
