Prof. Webber, a new inaugural Champion of the Mangrove Breakthrough

The Faculty of Science and Technology is thrilled that Dale Webber has been named one of the five inaugural Champions of the Mangrove Breakthrough!

Dale serves as Jamaica’s first Special Envoy for Climate Change, Environment, Ocean, and Blue Economy, and is also Director of the Centre for Marine Sciences (CMS) and Director of the Discovery Bay Marine Laboratory at the University of the West Indies.

His leadership and vision have been instrumental in advancing Jamaica’s ambitious approach to mangrove protection and restoration. Through its NDC 3.0, Jamaica has committed to protecting approximately two-thirds of the island’s mangrove forests by 2033 and restoring 7,000 hectares by 2027.

As a Mangrove Breakthrough Champion, Dale joins a distinguished group of leaders helping accelerate global action to secure the future of these vital coastal ecosystems.
