Professor Gunjan Mansingh Becomes First Woman to Lead FST

The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at The University of the West Indies, Mona, has welcomed Professor Gunjan Mansingh as its new Dean, effective August 1, 2026.
 
Professor Mansingh’s appointment marks a significant moment in the Faculty’s history, as she becomes the first woman to serve as Dean of FST.
 
A distinguished scholar and academic leader in Computing and Data Science, Professor Mansingh has built an extensive career in teaching, research, graduate supervision and university service. Her research spans data mining, machine learning, decision-support systems, knowledge management and expert systems, with a strong focus on using technology to address practical challenges.
 
She has also contributed to the advancement of postgraduate training in Applied Data Science and played a leading role in establishing the UWI–NCB Agile Talent Laboratory. Through her academic work, partnerships and public engagement, she has consistently championed innovation as a driver of national and regional development.
 
Professor Mansingh assumes leadership of the Faculty at an important time for science and technology in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. Her experience and commitment to academic excellence will support FST’s continued work in strengthening STEM education, expanding research and innovation, and preparing graduates to respond to emerging challenges.
 
The Faculty community warmly congratulates Professor Mansingh and wishes her every success as she begins this historic chapter of leadership.
