SciTech Week 2020

The Faculty of Science and Technology Guild Committee (FSTGC) coordinated the annual SciTech Week Activities during the week February 16-22, 2020. The week began with a church service at the Escarpment Road New Testament Church of God which set the tone for the rest of the week. The Faculty was also decorated in its entirety on Sunday which helped to boost the enthusiasm of students and staff throughout the week. Day Two saw a Faculty in-reach and Staff Appreciation Day.  Students of the faculty were fed breakfast by members of the FSTGC and all members of the administrative office were given a token of appreciation. Tuesday was "Rep Your Alma Mater" (uniform) day. This was strongly supported with students who turned up clad in their high school uniforms and reminisced on the joys of high school and how proud they were to have graduated. Wednesday was FST day and students were encouraged to wear the colours of the Faculty (yellow/blue). Additionally, it was a repeat of our Paint Day (SciTech Edition) where two FSTGC members were painted using water balloons filled with paint. The FSTGC members to be painted were chosen by their fellow students via social media and by votes cast at the guild office. Thursday was one of the most anticipated days, as it was the FSTGC's inaugural Carnival Village and joint Club Fusion Day. The Carnival Village was devised to promote young entrepreneurs within the faculty as well as the wider university by giving them an avenue to showcase there creative products and ideas and get new customers in the process. The clubs that participated demonstrated experiments or showcased accomplishments and interesting facts about them. The week closed on Friday, Feb. 21 with a Faculty Lyme called Chill which was held on the Physics Patio from 4pm to 7pm. The lyme facilitated student integration and enjoyment. It was also a stress reliever for most in attendance with mid-semesters approaching in the weeks following. SciTech Week 2020 was a great success and a good time was had by all!
