Teacher’s Day Highlights 2026 – Celebrating Legacy and Service | Dr. Donna Minott Kates

In observance of Teacher’s Day on May 6, 2026, the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at The University of the West Indies, Mona, celebrated the dedication, commitment and passion of its teaching staff whose work continues to shape lives and contribute meaningfully to national development.

The Faculty recognised the invaluable role lecturers and educators play in supporting student growth through their patience, guidance and unwavering commitment to academic excellence. Their efforts continue to make a lasting impact not only on students, but also on the wider society through teaching, mentorship and service.

This year’s observance also served as a special opportunity to honour Dr. Donna Minott-Kates as she demits office as Head of the Department of Chemistry. During her tenure, Dr. Minott-Kates played a significant role in strengthening the Department through her steadfast dedication to student success, academic development and service to the Faculty.

Widely respected for her extensive institutional knowledge, steady leadership and collaborative spirit, Dr. Minott-Kates has consistently supported Faculty initiatives and events while contributing to the continued advancement of the Department of Chemistry and the wider Faculty community. Her leadership has been marked by professionalism, dedication and a deep commitment to the growth and development of the University.

The Faculty of Science and Technology extends sincere gratitude to Dr. Minott-Kates for her outstanding leadership and continued service, and joins in celebrating her contributions on Teacher’s Day 2026.
