Biotechnology Centre hosts Labs-Skills Summer Workshop

The Biotechnology Centre is currently hosting a Biotechnology Lab-Skills Training Summer Workshop for teachers and laboratory technicians. The workshop is being held in conjunction with the School of Education (Faculty of Humanities and Education). The workshop began with an Opening ceremony on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 in the Science Lecture Theatre 1 (FST). In attendance at the Opening were the Dean of FST (Prof. Michael Taylor), Dr. Aldrin Sweeney who represented the School of Education, Ms Sasha Gay Wright (interim leader for Biomedical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering) and Mrs. Alsian Brown-Perry (Assistant Registrar for CXC). The Opening was chaired by Prof. Helen Asemota who was the conceptualizer for the workshop and who will lead the training along with staff members form the Biotechnology Centre. In her remarks, Ms Perry (CXC) noted that the workshop is timely as CXC is in the final stages of preparing its Biotechnology exam syllabus which it hoped to roll out in the coming years. She noted the key role of Prof. Asemota and the Biotechnology Centre in the preparation of the syllabus.

The workshop is being staged in two parts - Basic skills (week 1) and Advanced skills (week 2). It is open to science teachers and laboratory technicians.
