The Administrative Officers of the Faculties across the Mona Campus including the Western Jamaica Campus came together to present a second Virtual Seminar entitled, “Estate Management and Life planning: Is it too soon to write my Will?” on May 20, 2021. The Facilitator was Mrs Sophia Levy of the Administrator-General’s Department who answered critical questions such as “What is a Will?”, “What is the ideal age to start planning for my estate?” “Why is it important to write a Will?” and “What happens to your estate if you pass before making a will?” The session also helped participants understand key relevant terms such as Executor, probate, intestate and Bona Vacantia. The session was well received with over one hundred and fifty attendees. In support of the effort, the Norman Manley Law School’s (NMLS) Legal Aid Clinic will host an initiative to assist up to 300 University staff with the writing of Wills. The date is set tentatively for November 22-26, 2021 with more details to come.
