The Faculty of Science and Technology extends heartiest congratulations to the following members of staff who were appointed Heads of Departments and Associate Deans effective, August 1, 2023. This marks a significant milestone for both our faculty and these accomplished individuals who are now at the helm of critical academic and administrative areas within the FST.

Dr. Nadale Downer-Riley -  Associate Dean, Undergraduate Matters: Dr. Downer-Riley's dedication to academic excellence and student advancement makes her ideally suited for this role. Her wealth of experience and passion for fostering exceptional learning experiences will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and development of our undergraduate programs. Dr. Downer-Riley’s research interests are the synthesis of bioactive natural products from plants and marine microorganisms, and the synthesis of heterocyclic natural products.

Dr. Tanya Kerr - Associate Dean, Student Experience: With her profound commitment to student welfare and success, Dr. Kerr brings a compassionate and student-centric approach to this pivotal position. Her vision aligns perfectly with our goal of providing a holistic and enriching educational journey for every student within FST.

Prof. Mona Webber -  Head,  Department of Life Sciences: Prof. Webber's exceptional background in life sciences research and education makes her a beacon of knowledge and innovation. Under her leadership, the Department of Life Sciences is poised to achieve new heights of research excellence and academic distinction. Prof. Webber’s research areas are assessment of marine habitat quality: water columns; mangroves and seagrasses.

Prof. Dale Webber -  Director, Centre for Marine Sciences: Prof. Webber’s expertise will drive the Centre's initiatives to further our understanding of marine ecosystems and address critical environmental challenges. We eagerly anticipate the impactful contributions that will emanate from his directorship. Prof. Webber’s research areas are coastal water quality, circulation and ecology towards wise use and best management.

Dr. Daniel Fokum - Head of the Department of Computing: Dr. Daniel Fokum's appointment as the Head of the Department of Computing signifies an exciting new chapter for the department. His extensive knowledge and dynamic approach to computer science education and research are poised to steer the department toward continued innovation and excellence. Dr. Fokum’s research areas are Computer Science Education and Computer Networking.

Dr. Mahesha Narayana – Head of the Department of Mathematics: Dr. Narayana's passion for mathematics education will undoubtedly enhance the department's academic prowess and contribute to fostering a love for mathematics among our students. Dr. Narayana’s research areas are Computational Methods and Fluid Mechanics.
