New Fortress Energy Foundation has pledged $1 million to sponsor the Junior Mathematical Olympiad and Senior Mathematical Olympiad for the third consecutive year. The Junior and Senior Mathematical Olympiads are organised and executed by the Department of Mathematics at The UWI under the wider Jamaican Mathematical Olympiad (JMO). The Senior Olympiad, which started in 2010, is open to high-school students (grades 7-11), while the Junior Olympiad, which was added in 2011, is open to upper primary/prep students (grades 4–6). The aim of the competition is to connect with students at the high and primary school levels, who are engaged in STEM subjects, specifically mathematics. This year, over 2,300 students entered the qualifying round of the Junior Olympiad, while close to 500 students entered the qualifying round of the Senior Olympiad. The winners of both Olympiads will be announced in May 2023.
