The Faculty congratulates Ms. Worrell on being the 2019/2020 recipient of the University and Allied Workers Union (UAWU) Award for Excellence in the Provision of Support Services at the Annual Awards Ceremony held on March 25, 2021.
Mrs. Winnifred Worrell can always be depended on to give a helping hand in the Department whether it means taking on additional duties due to the absence of a colleague or her active involvement in the Department of Chemistry's annual Labour Day project.
For many years Mrs Worrell was assigned one of the largest laboratory spaces and the second largest lecture theatre in the Department of Chemistry, due to their physical proximity; both of which had to be ready for use early every workday. Mrs Worrell would always ensure that she is on time and would work diligently and professionally to ensure that her assigned spaces were well-prepared in time for classes, leaving no room for complaints.
Mrs Worrell treats all with respect and is well respected in return. Her cheerful demeanour is a pleasure to behold and facilitates her ease of interaction with members of and visitors to the Department. Always helpful, Mrs Worrell works well with other members of the service staff, the technical staff in her assigned laboratory and members of academic staff with whom she interacts daily. As one of the more mature staff members she provides positive leadership to the junior service staff members who all look up to her.
Mrs Winnifred Worrell embodies dependability and exhibits a love for and commitment to the Department of Chemistry and to The University of the West Indies which is worthy of emulation. Not a complainer, Mrs Worrell would willingly come in on Saturdays to ensure that her laboratory is adequately prepared for the Saturday stream.
The Faculty salutes Mrs. Worrell on a job well done.
