On September 16-17,2023 total of 110 students gathered to participate in a dynamic and engaging Study Skills Workshop hosted by the Faculty of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Office of Student Services and Development (OSSD). The Workshop, spanning two days, featured insightful presentations by Miss Simone Williams and Miss Keresha Larmond from OSSD.
The Workshop's comprehensive agenda covered crucial aspects of effective learning, including the science of learning, the study cycle, identification of barriers to studying, and strategies for optimal study sessions. One of the Workshop's highlights was the guidance provided to students in developing a personalized learner profile and a strategic study plan.
Dr. Tanya Kerr (Associate Dean, Student Experience, FST) and Miss Catherine Lloyd (President, FST Guild Committee) delved into student statistics obtained from the registration survey and used same to highlight essential study tools, and emphasized the benefits of group study. These insights served as invaluable resources for attendees looking to enhance their academic performance.
The Workshop, running from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on both days, offered a comprehensive learning experience, with Sunday's session mirroring the content covered on Saturday. Lunches for both days were generously sponsored by the Victoria Mutual Foundation and Inntech Communications Ltd, allowing students to refuel and network during the breaks.
The event's success was evident in the engaged participation of the students and the positive feedback received.
