LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN CHEMICAL PATHOLOGY
Department of Pathology – Faculty of Medical Sciences

The post-holder will be responsible for teaching (face-to-face and online) undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies, conducting research activities, engaging in clinical service work at the University Hospital of the West Indies, which provides the content for clinical undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and participating in various administrative, quality assurance and accreditation activities. The post-holder may additionally be asked to perform teaching activities involving students in other faculties of the University of the West Indies.

The successful candidate will be required to:
• Teach and deliver didactic lectures and tutorials to pre-clinical and clinical undergraduate students pursuing the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS);
• Deliver clinical teaching to postgraduate students pursuing the degree of Doctor of Medicine;
• Deliver lectures and tutorials to postgraduate students pursuing the Master and Doctor of Philosophy degrees;
• Create, develop and implement innovative teaching techniques for better and easy understanding;
• Actively participate in the review and development of quality assurance and accreditation activities in the laboratories within the Department;
• Research and publish in the discipline and/or related areas;
• Perform clinical service work which will include but may not be limited to Chemical Pathology;
• Perform any administrative duties related to teaching and learning;
• Contribute actively to the development and affairs of the department and to the life of The University.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:
• MBBS or MD degree from a recognized medical school and postgraduate qualification (Doctor of Medicine or equivalent) in Chemical Pathology OR PhD in Biochemistry (or related science discipline) and postgraduate qualification in Chemical Pathology  OR Board certification/ Royal College of Pathology Fellowship in Chemical Pathology;
• Demonstrated scholarly research;
• At least five (5) years’ experience of teaching in the related areas at the tertiary level.

Candidates who possess the following will be at a distinct advantage:
• Certificate in university teaching;
• Evidence of prior grant acquisition;
• Demonstrated ability to excel in teaching in both face-to-face and online settings;
• Administrative experience within an academic institution;
• Evidence of contribution to the Public Service OR field of study.
