LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN PAEDIATRICS

LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN PAEDIATRICS
Department of Child and Adolescent Health

The successful candidate will play an active role in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, clinical service delivery to in-patient and out-patient children and adolescents, and contribute to the research activities within the Department of Child & Adolescent Health.

Key Responsibilities

1. Academic and Teaching Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures and tutorials to junior and senior undergraduate medical students, postgraduate students in the DM Paediatrics programme and any relevant clinical fellowships in the department
  • Facilitate academic seminars, journal clubs, case reviews, and morbidity/mortality meetings
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship for postgraduate trainees (DM and Fellowship levels).
  • Supervise clinical research projects of DM Paediatrics postgraduate students
  • Participate as an examiner in:

o End of clerkship clinical examinations: Junior students (3rd year clinicals) and senior students (5th year clinicals)
o MBBS clinical exams: Final year students (OSCE)
o DM Paediatrics, parts 1 and 2: Ongoing clinical evaluations and final exams (OSCE, long case, short case, orals)

2. Provide teaching during clinical care delivery

  • Teach undergraduate and medical students, postgraduate residents and fellows during clinical service delivery as follows:

o Consultant, General Paediatrics ward, Inpatient service (≥4 months per year)
o On call General Paediatrics Emergency Duty Rota

  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and audits

3. Research and Scholarship - Contribute to the department’s research output and grant funding success

  • Conduct and publish original research in Child and Adolescent Health
  • Collaborate in departmental, local, regional, and international research projects
  • Actively seek grant opportunities to fund research activities
  • Present findings at local, regional, and international scientific meetings.

4. Administrative and Institutional Duties

  • Participate in service activities including international seminars, committee membership, to enhance the Public service and Outreach of the Department, Faculty and the University.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, policy development, and service improvement within the Department.
  • To perform other reasonable local regional and international duties appropriately assigned

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Postgraduate degree in Paediatrics;
  • Demonstrated scholarly research;
  • At least five (5) years’ experience of teaching in the related areas at the tertiary level.

Candidates who possess the following will be at a distinct advantage:

  • Postgraduate training in a Paediatric sub-specialty area;
  • Experience supervising undergraduate and or postgraduate students;
  • Administrative experience within an academic institution;
  • Evidence of contribution to the Public Service or field of study.
