Job Summary:

To support CCRIB’s research initiatives through hands-on fieldwork and collaboration with local communities

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and organize field trips to project sites under the supervision of the Principal Investigator of the project
  • Keep accurate records of fieldwork activities and data, incl. project planning and progress
  • Liaise with local communities, including farmers and other stakeholders, to foster communication and address inquiries about project activities
  • Support the collection of plant and biological samples for biodiversity research, and assist in surveys to document traditional knowledge of local communities
  • Perform essential clerical duties, such as preparing correspondences, organizing documentation and managing communications
  • Provide support in sharing research findings and updates with project partners and community members, and for academic presentations

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Be Accurate in record keeping and taking notes
  • Be proficient in data collection through surveys
  • Ability to carry out plant sampling and identification
  • Ability to work independently
  • Be sociable

Qualifications and Experience:

  • An undergraduate degree in Botany, Environmental Biology, Social Sciences, or a related field
  • Experience in conservation, biological sampling and plant identification would be an asset
  • Experience with fieldwork in rural settings, tropical forests, community outreach is preferred
  • Possesses a valid Jamaican Driver’s License
