INSTRUCTOR – English Language Section

The University of the West Indies (UWI) is a dynamic, international institution serving the countries of the Commonwealth Caribbean. The successful applicant will be directly responsible for the teaching and assessment of students’ critical Academic Literacies- notably their reading and writing skills, and inclusive of their English Language Proficiency- and will be required to:

  • participate actively in course development;
  • contribute to students’ writing development by offering consistent guidance; 
  • demonstrate sensitivity to linguistic and other cultural differences in the execution of his/her responsibilities;
  • keep excellent records of student progress and performance and related matters; and
  • display proficiency in integrating digital literacy tools and platforms to enhance students' academic writing development, and guide students in effectively utilising these technologies for educational growth.

Applicants must hold the following essential qualifications and experience:

  • Master’s degree in Composition and Rhetoric, Writing Studies or related area;
  • Professional qualification in teaching; 
  • A minimum of five years teaching experience preferably in a tertiary institution, but at minimum, at the secondary level in the area of Composition and Rhetoric, Writing Studies, Academic Literacies, or related area; 
  • Strong English Language skills.
