PHYSICAL THERAPIST

The Faculty of Sport at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, wishes to invite applications for the post of;

PHYSICAL THERAPIST
UWI SPORTS MEDICINE CLINIC

The successful applicant will be required to:

• Engage in the management of athletes who have been referred by a physician according to evidence-based practice guidelines;
• Engage in pre-participation musculoskeletal and fitness evaluations of athletes referred to the section;
• Develop individualized training programmes for UWI athletes with specific deficits and imbalances and work alongside with their coach to deliver these programmes;
• Develop and deliver group exercise programmes for university athletes to help improve sport performance;
• Provide onsite management for university athletes during training sessions and competition.
• Maintain appropriate and up to date medical records for all patients seen in alignment with the policies of the section;
• Evaluate and assess need for additional services to provide quality care to all clients and discuss with the head of section on an ongoing basis;
• Assist with preparation of quarterly reports on the work done by the physical therapist for submission to the head of section.

Additionally, the Clinical Physical Therapist shall perform the following primary functions in support of the academic function of the Section of Sports and Exercise Medicine:
• Engage in teaching and supervision of students who are undergoing clinical rotations at the section;
• Engage in the supervision of students who are conducting research in this section;
• Engage in research activities in sports in alignment with the research agenda of the Mona Academy of Sport;


Qualifications and Experience Required
• Desirable: Master’s degree in MSc. Sports Physical Therapy, MSc Sports and Exercise Medicine-Physical Therapy.
• Preference will be given to candidates who have had at least at least 2 years of sport specific experience and certification as a fitness instructor or strength and conditioning certification.
• Candidates enrolled in the MSc. Sports and Exercise Medicine programme may also be considered for this post.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
• At least five years’ experience in clinical management of patients with orthopaedic and muscular injuries within both public and private sector;
• Excellent written and verbal skills, as well as strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to handle multiple activities simultaneously and to effectively prioritise tasks and responsibilities.
• Ability to practice discretion and mature judgment.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with colleagues and students;
• Evidence of research activity and published research is preferable;
• Commitment and passion for the field.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must be able to maintain a flexible work schedule and be willing to work late in the evenings and on the weekends.
