Visiting Professor to the UWI School of Nursing

Visiting Professor to the UWI School of Nursing, Dr Joanna Bennett will deliver a public lecture on the topic ‘Black People and Psychiatric Services: a British Experience’ on Thursday, October 27 at the Main Medical Lecture Theatre, beginning at 5.00 p.m. Dr. Bennett is a Senior Academic at King’s College in London where she is the workforce development lead – black and minority ethnic mental health at the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health as well as Visiting Professor to Middlesex University.

Work Place Satisfaction Survey

The Mona Campus first ever Work Place Satisfaction Survey is now being conducted at Mona as part of the Campus’ strategic transformation process in all departments amongst all categories of staff – academic, administrative and service.

7th Annual Walter Rodney Lecture

The Institute of Caribbean Studies and the Marcus Garvey Movement present the 7th Annual Walter Rodney Lecture to be held on Thursday October 20 at 6:00p.m. at the Undercroft of the Senate Building, UWI, Mona. Distinguished Rodney scholar, Professor Rupert Lewis, will deliver the lecture, entitled "Walter Rodney: Forging a Caribbean Intellectual Tradition." The public is invited to attend.

9th General Meeting of the Caribbean Academy of Sciences

The 9th General Meeting of the Caribbean Academy of Sciences, Jamaica Chapter will be held on October 20 at 2.00 p.m. in the Chemistry Lecture Theatre, C5. All members and interested persons are invited to attend.
The keynote address titled “Science, Technology and Poverty-A Potent Mix” will be delivered by Dr. Arnoldo Ventura, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Jamaica on Science and Technology.

Conference on Canada and the Caribbean

The Southern Association for Canadian Studies invites submissions for their upcoming Conference scheduled to be held from January 12 – 15, 2006. In the Faculty of Social Sciences at the UWI Mona Campus. The theme for the conference is: 'Canada and the Caribbean'. Conference on Education for Sustainable Development

Education for Development: New Approaches for the Future is the theme of a Caribbean Regional Conference, which will be held at the Hilton Kingston Hotel from October 19 -20. The conference is a joint effort of the UNESCO Office for the Caribbean, the University of the West Indies in association with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Culture, the United Nations Environment Programme, the Caribbean Network of Teacher Educators and the National Environmental Education Committee.

Congratulations

Senior Assistant Registrar at the UWI Mona Campus Raymond Eytle has been selected as the recipient of the Jamaica Employers’ Federation Ambassador Award for 2004-2005. The Award was presented to Mr. Eytle at the JEF’s Evening of Excellence held at the Little Theatre recently. The Award is in recognition of Mr. Eytle’’s outstanding support of the JEF. Other members of the University community have also been recognized for outstanding service in their respective fields. Recently the Institute of Jamaica awarded the Silver Musgrave Medal to former UWI staff members, Professor R.

Dr. Joanna Bennett has been appointed Visiting Professor to the UWI School of Nursing for the period October 1-29.

From Garvey to Marley

The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus and the Jamaica Home Coming 2005 Committee will launch the book “From Garvey to Marley” by Professor Noel Erskine on Tuesday, October 18, at 6:00 p.m. in the Blue Room, Mona Visitors' Lodge and Conference Centre, Mona Campus. The book will be launched by Professor Rupert Lewis, Professor of Political Thought, Department of Government. Members of the public are invited to attend.

Loss of Equipment

The Campus community is being reminded that the serial numbers of all equipment must be recorded and that if there is a loss the matter must be reported immediately to the Mona Campus Police Station, in order that the matter may be investigated. The loss should also be reported to the Insurance Claims section of the Bursary. Heads of Departments/Sections/Units are responsible for compliance with the above.
